How to size column radiators as efficiently as possible.

Column radiators look great and there are over 4,000 sizes available, not to mention the 188 RAL colours and 30 Special Finishes. Sizing these efficiently by achieving the output you require in sizes that fit your space, along with prices that are suitable for your budget seems like a daunting undertaking, but is actually quite simple once you know a few tricks.

Our factory Direct multicolumn radiators are price structured to make their most popular sizes cheapest. The idea is as a manufacturer, they churn out best sellers with options on the other sizes, but at a premium.

For example the 3 column 400mm is £24.19 a section, but a 3 column 600mm is £21.91. If we wanted to make a 400mm in a comparable output to a 3 column 600mm x 10 sections (600 watts) we'd need to go 14 or 15 sections. Cost wise, that would be £338.66 versus £219.10. for the 600mm. I know this will all be obvious once you start working through, but I thought I'd explain this to save you a bit of time.

At time of writing, the best priced models are 3 column 600mm, 4 column 600mm 3 column 750mm, 4 column 750mm and 3 column 1800mm. There may be some variation, but you get the gist?

From an output perspective, its completely linear. A 3 column 400mm is a third less than a 600mm. A 3 column 600mm section is the same as a 6 column 300mm.
